Compete & Connect – ’s Heeren Loo

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

How do you connect more than 500 employees who have never met before? For ’s Heeren Loo, UP Digital created a tailor-made Compete & Connect game that turned a large staff day at the Spant theatre into an energetic, interactive experience. Designed to build connection and collaboration, the event brought together 550 participants divided into 87 teams — all playing, learning, and laughing together.

Bringing people together through the Compete & Connect game

The Compete & Connect game is built around one simple goal: interaction. Instead of passive presentations, employees teamed up to complete fun and meaningful challenges related to their organization’s values. Every task required teamwork, creativity, and quick thinking, making it easy for people to connect naturally.
As a result, participants didn’t just meet new colleagues — they built real relationships while having fun.

A customized experience for ’s Heeren Loo

UP Digital developed a fully personalized version of the Compete & Connect game for this special event. All assignments were tailored to reflect the culture, mission, and daily work of ’s Heeren Loo.
Through playful quizzes, creative photo missions, and short team exercises, the content highlighted what unites the organization’s diverse teams. This approach turned the day into more than just a gathering — it became a celebration of shared purpose.

Large-scale engagement made easy

Running a Compete & Connect game with 550 people might sound complex, but the technology made it seamless. Using their own smartphones, participants could join instantly, view live leaderboards, and follow updates throughout the event.
This real-time interaction kept the energy high from start to finish. Moreover, the modular design made it easy to scale for future events — whether for 50 people or 1,000.

Connection that lasts beyond the event

The Compete & Connect game doesn’t end when the event does. Participants left with new contacts, fresh insights, and a stronger sense of belonging within ’s Heeren Loo.
By combining digital interaction with authentic connection, the experience proved that gamification can truly bring people together — even in the largest teams.
