What is event gamification?
During school, especially on your first day, you might have experience playing ice-breaking games so that you and your classmates can bond and get to know each other. This is one example of event gamification.
Event gamification is using elements of games for a non-game concept in events. What does that mean? You might ask. In other words, it is using games in order for people to train, learn, and engage in the event.
So what does it use for? Event gamification is used to increase participant engagement, form a network, and also get sponsors.
If you are a leader of an organization, this could be a tool you can use.
Do you want to know how to apply event gamification in your organization? This is your guide!
To apply gamification only takes 6 steps. I assure you it’s not that difficult.

1. Know your goal
The first step towards event gamification is clarifying your goal. Having a clear goal is important.
Why? Because different games can be created for different purposes.
If your goal for the event is to build a network with new people, you would need to build challenges around them. If your goal is to enhance sponsor engagement, you need to create a game that targets them.
2. Select the game
There are many different event gamification techniques you can use. However, which one is the best one?
To answer this question, think about the goal you set for the event and what you want to achieve through the game.
Think about it.
If you just build random games that do not align with the objective of the event, it will have less impact on the audience of the event.
When choosing a game, information about the event is also needed. What kind of people will be coming? How many people are coming? How long the event will be? and etc.
With this information, we will be able to modify the game so that it fits with the event.
3. Write the rules
Without the rules, the whole event will feel like chaos and we definitely do not want that to happen.
In event gamification, the rules need to be simple, clear, and easy to follow so that everyone can enjoy them and not get confused or lost.
Following these points, it will make the game more enjoyable and fun to play.
4. Promote the event and invite guests
In order to make the event successful, it is important to let people know about the event. How can you do the event when nobody knows about it?
The promotion not only states the information about the event, but it also needs to be interesting and appealing to the audience.
You can do this by uploading it on social media, handing out flyers, and inviting sponsors and speakers to the event.
5. Do the event
Now, it’s time to play the game!
In this stage, you should observe the audience and see if they are actually having fun. Carefully examine the faces of the audience and check if they are focused and interested.
If they are not paying attention, it’s a sign that the game is no fun to them.
6. After the event
After the event, collecting participants’ opinions about the game would be a good idea to see what they liked and didn’t like. The best way to do that is to perform a survey. A survey is best done immediately after the game while the memory is fresh.
Also, after the event, giving rewards to the winner is also important. Who would play without prizes right?
Giving rewards is one of the best ways to motivate people to participate in event gamification. I mean who doesn’t like prizes? Prizes also encourage people to do their best and be competitive.
This will motivate people to upgrade their skills or talents in order to win which will be beneficial to the organizations.
